Last night I had the pleasure of dinning with a dear friend and colleague; Maurice Dancer, Chef Concierge of The Taj Pierre Hotel here in NYC.   We were both invited to the newest and most likely soon to be quite a “hot spot” restaurant of our dear friend Alain Allegretti.  Alain has worked in several of the top restaurants here in NYC and has also had his own restaurant over the years; his native Nicoise cuisine is probably in my opinion one of the best in the world outside of Nice, France.     The restaurant Promenade des Anglais is located in the heart of Chelsea on West 23rd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues.   How convenient; just steps away from the Highline as well as being downstairs to one of Chelsea’s most famous residential buildings: The London Terrace!    The former space of the restaurant Bette has been completely transformed into a comfortable modern designs with a rich combination of soft tones, subdued relaxed colors blending easily on the eye.  The design of the restaurant is just as comforting as the food; there is a little bit of everything from interesting art work on the ceiling to assorted tables seating up to 100 as well as comfortable and more intimate booths.    The restaurant will open officially very soon and will serve lunch and dinner daily as well as Sunday and Saturday Brunch.

I started with a delicious Brandade Crostini minus the prosciutto for dietary reasons.  Such a simple yet delightful crunch together with the correct blend of taste.   A Spanish sparkling wine accompanied the starter which was quite cool and crips and a perfect compliment to the Brandade.   Notice the clean cool design of the table setting!  A rare Sicilian vintage olive oil is served with the fresh homemade breads!

One of my favorite beginnings to a meal: Roasted Beet Salad. This time an assortment of several tastes mixed with succulent fruits such as orange supremes and a touch of goat cheese but most importantly a great mix and blend of balanced tastes!

The Main Course was most fantastic:  Braised Monk Fish in Fig Leaves together with sauteed Figs!   A rosemary potato gallette was attached.   Mouthwatering blend of tastes; rich yet subtle!!

The evening was not just about the food and design of the restaurant but also about dear friends!  It was one of those magical NYC Restaurant evenings where by happened chance; dear friends from the Restaurant World were also there.   Celebrity Chefs and Restauranteurs shown above:  Marisa May from San Domenico (SD26) and Chef and owner Alain Allegretti of Promenade des Anglais.

In addition to my dear friend accompanying me to dinner: Maurice Dancer of The Taj Pierre Hotel; we were seated next to other dear friends Rita and Andre Jammet from the former famed French Restaurant La Caravelle!

It was a magical evening of fantastic dinning together with the warm of good friends! Highly suggest making a visit to Promenade des Anglais NYC!
