There are many reasons why we chose to stay in top deluxe hotels offering luxury service: For some its the location, design, atmosphere, spa facilities or even 24 hour room service, the attention to detail, etc. but mostly its a feeling of being protected of being transported into an ‘oasis of calm.”  I once met with a AAA Hotel inspector who described this Five Star/Five Diamond feeling as being “wrapped in a cocoon of comfort.”

As I spent one evening walking along Kalakaua Avenue looking at the tremendous increase in development, the escalation of this almost Disney/Las Vegas Strip feeling; I thought “this is not what the Royals had in mind.”   But then there is my refuge; the oasis of calm upon my return to The Halekulani; the spacious open Hawaiian style public rooms and gardens; the magnificent view of Waikiki Beach with Diamond Head in the distance.  Just at the edge of the frenetic pace of tourist stalls and souvenir shops yet true to its name “House befitting Heaven.”
